vokse vs PocketSmith

A budget, not only a projection.
An assistant that works it with you.

PocketSmith projects your balances decades ahead and asks you to bring your own AI. vokse starts from this month: zero-based envelopes, an assistant on the same audited tools, undo for every change, a household with roles, and your data hosted in the EU. Every PocketSmith cell below was checked on their own site in September 2026.

Connect your bank or import your history. Every transaction categorised, every envelope up to date.

The short answer

Is vokse a good PocketSmith alternative?

Yes. vokse is a PocketSmith alternative that budgets zero-based instead of projecting amounts per category, ships its own assistant instead of asking you to bring an AI subscription, and adds undo history, household roles and EU hosting. Your PocketSmith transactions come across as CSV; bank sync covers the US and Canada today, with file imports for every other bank.

Why vokse is the PocketSmith alternative worth switching to.

Six answers to the rows PocketSmith leads with, and to the ones it leaves empty.

  • An assistant of its own

PocketSmith's AI page says you bring your own AI subscription. vokse ships the assistant: ask what is left for groceries, have transactions categorised, move money between envelopes by chat. It works the same audited tools as the buttons, logs every step, and anything it cannot undo waits for you.

  • Zero-based envelopes, not an amount per category

PocketSmith sets an amount per category on its calendar and keeps carry-over in a beta. vokse assigns the money you actually have to envelopes, moves it when plans change, and rolls what is left forward, with goals sitting on the envelopes themselves.

  • A forecast for the month that matters

PocketSmith projects balances decades ahead from the budget events you schedule yourself. vokse reads six months of your real history and your recurring bills and shows next month's low point before the month starts; the money calendar holds every bill due.

  • Claude and ChatGPT, with an undo

PocketSmith's Learn Centre says deleting transactions cannot be undone, and its AI page admits one-step undo is still being built. vokse's remote MCP server runs the same audited tools as the app, granted per household, and every change it makes lands in an undo history with its author.

  • A household with roles

A PocketSmith collaborator can do everything the owner can, with no roles in between and no access to the shared account from mobile. vokse gives each person owner, editor or viewer, records every change with who made it, and keeps undo and redo for all of them.

  • Your data in the EU, on one plan

PocketSmith's site names no hosting country and sells its features in three tiers. vokse is hosted in the European Union, exports everything as one file when you ask, purges the account 30 days after you ask for that, and puts every feature on one plan with a free trial.

Switching from PocketSmith, in three steps.

PocketSmith exports transactions to CSV on every plan, and vokse imports CSV. Budgets, filters and attachments are not in PocketSmith's export, so the envelopes are set up fresh in vokse from the history you bring.

  1. Export your transactions from PocketSmith

On the Transactions page choose All transactions, hover Export and pick CSV, or open Settings, User preferences, Export data and download the CSV of everything. Their site states no plan restriction on either path. Attachments come out separately as a zip from the Files page.

  2. Import the CSV into vokse

Upload the file and review what vokse found before anything lands: accounts, dates, amounts, payees. Fix a name, then confirm. The assistant can take the categorising from there.

  3. Give this month's money its envelopes

PocketSmith's backup leaves budgets out, so assign the money you have to envelopes in vokse, set goals on the ones that need them, and connect a US or Canadian bank or keep importing files as the month runs.
